The United States, “New World,” wine, it has come a long way since its entry into the wine world more than 300 years ago. There are nearly 3,000 vineyards in the United States and at least one winery in each of the 50 states. The United States of America is the fourth largest wine producing country in the world after France, Italy, and Spain. The US offers an eclectic array of wines. So, how to begin? Here’s some places to start:

  • California: Napa: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah; Coastal areas of Sonoma: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
  • Oregon: Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.
  • Washington: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling.
  • Michigan: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
